Vysočina Region (project partner 03)

The administrative division of the Czech Republic consists of 14 regions. Located on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, the two Czech historical lands, Vysočina Region covers an area of 6.796 km2 and counts 515.000 inhabitants.

The Vysočina Region is a territory-based community  of citizens with right to self-government. Within its independent powers, it looks after comprehensive development of its territory. To satisfy the needs of its population, the Vysočina Region establishes a number of public allowance organizations to ensure services in the field of education, culture, medicine, social care and road administration.

Among the typical features of Vysočina belong hilly countryside, rural character of settlement and pristine environment.

Havlíčkův Brod and Jihlava nodes

Havlíčkův Brod and Jihlava nodes are situated in the central part of the Czech Republic,  between the cities of Prague and Vienna (PP13), half way between Prague and Brno (PP2).

Havlíčkův Brod, a city of about 25.000 inhabitants, lies on the TEN-T railway line nr. 22. Jihlava, the capital of the Vysočina Region, is located approximately 27 m south of Havlíčkův Brod and peopled by 50.000 inhabtitants. It constitutes administrative, economical, cultural and educational centre of Vysočina.

Both Havlíčkův Brod and Jihlava nodes have not had any international passenger train since 2009/2010 timetable, when the last international express train was diverted to a faster way outside the region. Nevertheless, a new high-speed railway connection between Brno and Prague is intended to go through the Jihlava – Havlíčkův Brod area.

Performed activities within the RAILHUC project

  • Analysis of the current situation in railway/public transport in the Vysočina Region
  • Preliminary identification of bottlenecks and intervention measures
  • Presentation of the RAILHUC project and its contents to the key national and regional stakeholders
  • Building of Workgroup with representatives of the Ministry of Transport, the Railway Infrastructure administration and KORDIS JMK (project partner 02) which focuses on plans of a new high-speed connection going through the Czech Republic

Planned activities within the RAILHUC project

  • Creation of a regional multimodal transport model in order to identify and propose optimal transport solutions for the Vysočina Region
  • Proposition of investment and intervention priorities, including concrete measures in the field of infrastructure, services and public transport
  • Conception of rail and non-rail public transport in the Vysočina Region, with regard to connections to the Jihlava and Havlíčkův Brod nodes and to bus lines network
  • Analysis of the planned high-speed railway between Brno and Prague and of its potential benefits for the Vysočina Region, including its connection to the conventional railway network in the region
  • Negotiation of the proposed interventions with key stakeholders
  • Quantitative and qualitative impact analysis of the devised measures
